Micromax Canvas 5 – The cyanogen powered phone

Hi folks ! There were some rumours going around in the android community that Micromax has partnered with Cyanogen team to bring a Cyanogen powered phone to the Indian market and that is proved right now with the proposed release of Micromax Canvas 5 by the end of the year.

CyanogenMod needs no introduction as it’s the highest customizable aftermarket firmware in the android community. It has been a open sourced group which brings latest android firmware to many android phones in the world. With the formation of Cyanogen Inc they entered the commercial world with the launch of One plus one phone which was an instant hit.

Now their second venture is into the Indian market is a tie up with Micromax who has become one of the smartphone leaders in Indian market and aims to revolutionize the Indian android smartphone market. The phone is named as Micromax Canvas 5 and aims to target the high level segment as it is priced quite high anf not a budget level smartphone. The phone comes with jaw dropping specifications which will make you itched to get the phone in your hands the next moment.

Micromax Canvas 5 :

Specifications :

  • 5-inch Full HD display
  • 2 Gb RAM
  • Octa core processor ( Mediatek chipset of 67xx series. We expect it to be MT6795
  • 2.2 Ghz processor & Cortex A53 64 bit ( Expected )
  • 4g supported chipset

The full feature list of MT6795 can be seen here

  • 16GB internal storage and SD card support.
  • 18 Megapixel rear camera
  • 5 Megapixel front camera ( For the selfie lovers )
  • Android Kitkat 4.4.4 ( CyanogenMod 11s firmware )
  • Solid aluminium body ( Expected to be like Canvas 4 series )

With such a specification you could expect a fairly higher price and yes the phone retail price is set to Rs.22000/-. This is a worry for the budget smartphone users in India who expect phones in the range of Rs.10000/- to 13000/-. Micromax & Cyanogen could have lowered the spec and concentrated on lower budget smartphone which is the main market in India. But still at Rs.22000/- its way lesser than other big players such as Samsung,Sony & HTC who are offering phones at this specification.

Though the exact release date of the phone is not officially announced the phone is expected to launch in a couple of months and Indian users will be definitely getting their hands on within the end of this year.
